Yes, I know, it hasn’t even been ten blog posts since I last mentioned ice cream. However, since then, I’ve thought of more places that I wished I would’ve included in the first post!
Fitz’s Root Beer
Although a micro-brewery known for their local St. Louis craft sodas, Fitz’s also serves iconic ice cream floats - offering an option with every flavor of Fitz’s root beer, of course. Given their size (aka, the fact that ice cream is packed three scoops high on top of the full mug, and sometimes with toppings) these floats are perfect to split with a friend. If you’re just visiting St. Louis, this is the stop you need to go to. Bonus: no matter which day or location you choose to visit, you can see the bottling center on the far side of the restaurant through glass panels. As the Delmar Loop restaurant is the original Fitz’s location, you’re more likely to see soda being actively bottled if you visit there!

Boardwalk Waffles
Having just opened in August 2020, Boardwalk Waffles Ice Cream is one of the newest ice cream hotspots in St. Louis! Boardwalk Waffles opened with a goal of bringing a classic Jersey Shore treat to the midwest - specifically, waffle ice cream sandwiches. Each Belgian waffle is cooked to order and served hot. Boardwalk offers over 50 ice cream flavors to be pressed between the waffles, or put in a waffle cone, waffle bowl, or used in their special creation of a wacho. A wacho you ask? I’m going to leave you hanging and tell you to visit to find out. :) The ambiance of the location reflects that Jersey Shore style as well - with surfboards hanging on the walls and beachy colors throughout the restaurant. Boardwalk Waffles currently only has one location open on Manchester, but plans to open three more locations in the coming months!

Snow Factory Roll Ice Cream
Ice’s Plain and Fancy isn’t the only ice cream parlor to use liquid nitrogen in the St. Louis area anymore. The Snow Factory combines the use of liquid nitrogen with Thai-styled ice cream rolls to create a unique ice cream creation. After selecting an ice cream flavor, watch the culinary artist craft your ice cream into rolls behind the glass barrier. Once several rolls have been aligned in your bowl, your toppings are added. The only downside? Finding a way to dig into the rolled ice cream! If you’re brave, consider trying Dragon’s Breath; fruit-flavored cereal with a generous amount of liquid nitrogen poured over it, causing steam to come out of your nose and mouth while eating it.

I’m sure that after I publish this blog post, I’ll think of even more ice cream spots that I’ve missed...but hey, all the more reason for another future excuse to talk about my favorite sweet treat! Until then, keep your eyes peeled on the socials (@livininthelou1 on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) for other ice cream updates!
Keep exploring!
